The Federal Ministry of Education's collection of printed matter of historical interest (formerly the Ministry of Education's Official Library)

In 2002, responsibility for the Ministry of Education's official library was transferred to the Federal Administrative Library. However, this so-called "official library" was actually much more significant than the name might suggest, since it was in fact one of the biggest collections of (historical) literature on education anywhere to be found in Austria, and played a crucial role in setting up the country's first digital library network (Bibos I). In assuming this responsibility, the Administrative Library also took on the task of maintaining the original collections from the official library and making appropriate use of the approximately 440,000 volumes in the collection, with a particular focus on the unique historical holdings.
