Children’s rights are human rights applicable worldwide to all young people up to the age of 18.
Children are not dependent on the goodwill of adults. Rather, they have a right to receive appropriate care, assistance and protection and participate in community life. Children are competent personalities and have their own rights which they may assert themselves.
These fundamental rights of children have been basic law worldwide since 1989, when the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted. By ratifying the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in 1992, Austria agreed to observe the rights of children and young people.
