Bilateral Cultural Cooperation

Bilateral cultural cooperation promotes cultural exchange and intercultural activities among European and non-European countries.

Bilateral cultural cooperation in Austria is based on the standard instrument of intergovernmental agreements (such as cultural treaties and memoranda of understanding), and also on direct contacts with foreign ministries and arts organizations. In the context of increasing globalisation, strategic forms of bilateral cooperation complement cooperation on the multilateral level:

  • Negotiation of cultural treaties, cultural programmes and memoranda of understanding
  • Hosting of foreign delegations
  • Visits by ministers of culture
  • Exchange of experts in the museum, restoration, monument protection and library sector Exchange of scientific publications and information material
  • Exchange of scientific publications and information material
  • Exchange of exhibitions
  • Artist in Residence Programme
